Vhale Phinisi

A graduation trip on one phinisi, divided by twenty

Updated 4 November 2026

A Komodo graduation trip on Vhale works out at IDR 7,400,000 (≈ USD 454) a head when twenty classmates share the 3D2N whole-boat fare. Transfers, meals, snacks and drinks are carried; the park package, flights, hotels and tips are not. Bunk rooms keep the sleeping bill down.

A graduating class of twenty or so, afloat

A class of twenty or so is almost exactly the party the whole-boat fare was written for, and that is the best reason to consider it. Vhale takes up to 28 guests on standard beds in 12 cabins. A class of twenty fits with room for the late additions: the sibling invited at the last minute, the friend from another year.

There is also something to be said for the sheer ceremony of it. Exams are a solitary business; three days on a single boat, with one table and one schedule and no one able to drift off to another café, is the opposite. Everyone ends up in the same photograph, whether they planned to or not.

Cabins, bunks and who drew the short straw

Four of the cabins are Coral bunk rooms, each with one double and one single bed, enough for three friends, and they sit on the lower deck. Twelve students in the four Coral rooms and eight in four queen cabins is a class of twenty asleep with four cabins to spare. That spare space is what makes the sums kind: nobody needs to be squeezed, and the chaperone, if there is one, has a door of their own.

The Pacific cabins are queen cabins for exactly two. The Atlantic cabins have a balcony and room for up to 4, which the class can raffle or give to the organiser. Ask us which bathroom arrangement the Azure and Coral cabins have; we will tell you in writing before you pay, and not before we know.

Three days borrowed from the exam calendar

The 3D2N route needs no adapting, only a little sleeping in. On day one the pickup is around 11:00, lunch follows, then Kelor and the trek at Rinca, and sunset at Kalong with the boat at anchor. Padar is the early start of day two, a climb in the dark for those who want the ridge at sunrise. The class that was up until one can skip it and stay on the day bed.

Breakfast is followed by Pink Beach and lunch, and the day closes with two snorkels, one at Taka Makassar and one at Manta Point. The two paddle boards are for the afternoons, and the speaker and the karaoke set for the evenings. On day three the boat snorkels once more, at Siaba or Sebayur, and is back at the quay by 12:00, which leaves the afternoon for flights.

The arithmetic per head, which parents will want to see

Parents will want to see the arithmetic, so here it is. The 3D2N whole-boat fare is IDR 148,000,000 (≈ USD 9,080). Twenty classmates share it at IDR 7,400,000 (≈ USD 454) each; if 24 come, the share falls to IDR 6,170,000 (≈ USD 379), and at 28 it is IDR 5,290,000 (≈ USD 325). In the fare are the car from the hotel or airport and back, all meals, snacks, water on tap, tea, coffee, milk and juice, and the snorkel gear.

The fare leaves out the park package, flights, hotels either side, tips and any alcohol. Charter the boat and the guide and photographs are asked for separately and quoted apart. A deposit of 50 percent keeps the date free; the rest comes due 30 days before sailing, so the class has two collection dates and not one large nerve-racking one. A class under twenty pays the same fare, and a seat from IDR 4,450,000 (≈ USD 273) a person is then worth a look.

Booking it without a middleman

You need no intermediary to book this, and you will not find one on our side either. One organiser writes with the head count and the dates, a written quote comes back, and three short messages secure the date. The guest list can follow later; the deposit cannot.

Send the first message from the person who will collect the money, since that person will be asked the questions. Keep what we reply; the steps are below. A deposit paid and a date held are the two facts everyone else is waiting for.

  1. Answered on WhatsAppSend dates, group size and route
  2. 50 percent of the totalDeposit confirms the date
  3. 30 days beforeBalance before sailing

FAQ

Can a graduating class of 20 take the whole boat?

Yes. Vhale takes up to 28 guests on standard beds in 12 cabins, and the whole-boat fare covers 1 to 28 guests at one sum. For twenty classmates on 3D2N that is IDR 7,400,000 (≈ USD 454) each, with the park package, flights and tips on top.

How far ahead should a class book?

As soon as the date is fixed, and earlier if it falls in a school holiday, because the whole boat sails with one party at a time. We set no fixed lead time; ask early and we answer in writing. We hold the date in three messages and confirm it in writing.

When do we pay the deposit and the balance?

The first 50 percent secures the date. The remainder is due 30 days before sailing, or on the quay by EDC or in cash. The class can therefore collect in two rounds. Card links carry 3 percent.
